The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is broadly a struggle between two national movements laying claim to the same territory. Nevertheless, the conflict has evolved and the nature of both the national movements and the conflict has changed. This lecture will provide (1) a brief overview of the conflict, from 1948 to 2000; (2) an outline Hamas ideology and beliefs; (3) a short history of the rise of Hamas from 1993 to 2007; (4) a brief summary of Jordan’s place in the conflict.

Brandon Friedman is the Director of Research and a Senior Research Fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center (MDC) for Middle Eastern and African Studies, Tel Aviv University.
